TEEN CRITIC PROGRAM

FOR: GRADE 10 – 12 STUDENTS

Have an opinion? We want to hear it! As one of Royal MTC’s Teen Critics, you’ll get a VIP ticket to attend six opening night performances for free. Broaden your mind, sharpen your critical eye, and converse with theatre reviewers and artists, while being amongst the first to see our professional shows. Feedback plays a very important role in theatre (and in life) and the Teen Critic formula is simple – watch the show, then tell us what you think!

The Teen Critic Program will begin with supper at 6:15 pm with a special guest (a professional theatre reviewer or professional artist) before watching a Mainstage or Warehouse opening night performance, followed by a 15 minute, post-show thought gathering session, which will be discussed the next time we meet!

19/20 Teen Critic Dates:
OCT 24, NOV 14, JAN 9, JAN 22, FEB 26, MAR 19, MAY 10 (Family Day)

Here's what past participants have said about their experience as a Teen Critic:

"Teen Critic was such an amazing opportunity. We all started off as strangers and grew to become a close knit group. I've learned so much about theatre and reviews, not only from our guest speakers, but from my peers (I can now call them my friends!) too. It was great getting to hear everyone's opinions and view points, helping me expand my views. I looked forward to coming here each session and truly don't want it to end. I will miss everyone so incredibly much. I will miss the heated discussions and all our agreements. I am so grateful to be given this opportunity. I have come to enjoy theatre even more than I did."

"When I first started this program, I didn't take it that seriously. I thought that there was food and a free boring play. But when I saw Sense and Sensibility, it really opened my eyes to how others had a passion for theatre, and soon after I realized that I also do. I'm really happy I got to experience all types of plays from radio plays to musicals. Even though I get shy when I express my opinions, I managed to become more confident due to this program."

"Coming to the Teen Critic program, I'd never been exposed to the world of theatre whatsoever, but now I can 100% say I wholeheartedly love and respect it. The amount of time, energy, passion and talent I've seen from the professionals we've been fortunate enough to meet is truly inspiring. This program was so fun and I am so grateful to have been a participant. Thank you!"
