Rich is a sailor, metaphorically and in reality. As a merchant seaman, he’s returned to be with his uncle, also a sailor, as his aunt dies. He meets two sisters, and is attracted to both, although they’re opposites. Rich had followed his uncle in going to sea for no other reason than he had no direction. Now, with the sisters, he has an opportunity to choose and find a direction. He and his uncle reflect upon their lives and the nature of love.

Sailor's Song is about the almost unbearable beauty of choosing to love, in the face of death.
