Henrik Ibsen’s masterpiece resonates more than a century after the debut of Nora Helmer, whose bourgeois illusions are shattered by the realization that she’s merely a doll in her own home. Nora is so devoted to her husband that she'll do anything to save his life. But when she paints herself into a corner, Nora must decide how far she’ll go to protect her family.

Playwright Henrik Ibsen

Henrik Ibsen

One of the most-produced dramatists in the world, Ibsen (1828-1906) is revered in Norway as its most famous author and a national symbol, even though he spent much of his life abroad. He was largely responsible for the rise of realism in the theatre. In works that possess revelatory power, Ibsen challenged his audiences to question conventional morality and social conditions. Often controversial, his works were deeply unsettling to many of his Victorian contemporaries. He is now widely regarded as the “father of modern drama” and one of the greatest dramatists who ever lived.
