ROYAL MTC ANNOUNCES CANCELLATION OF SEASON 2.0
Microprogramming | Options for ticket holders

On October 5, we announced the cancellation of what we’ve been calling Season 2.0. With the evolving complications of COVID-19, we can’t deliver the revised lineup of shows for our subscriber audiences while adhering to public health restrictions that would allow artists and audiences to gather safely.
Statement from Royal MTC Artistic Director Kelly Thornton: “This is devastating, but a necessary step to ensure everyone’s safety. Season 2.0 required artists to travel from across Canada, and the scope and scale of these plays were chosen well before social distancing was a requirement. With social distancing, our venues are severely restricted for audience numbers which makes the revised Season 2.0 lineup impossible. We’re profoundly sad for our staff, our artists and our subscribers. But in this great intermission, we continue to express our deepest gratitude to our volunteers, staff, artists, audiences and Board of Trustees. We continue to benefit from the guidance of our Trustees, the emotional and financial support of our patrons, and the graciousness of our audiences.”
Statement from Royal MTC Executive Director Camilla Holland: “Like all Manitobans, we’re keen to return to normal, but every day, we’re learning that normal will not be anytime soon. For now, we’re taking a pause on announcing programming too far into the future. We’ve recently watched theatres in other parts of the country announce COVID-compliant programming, only to cancel events as public gathering sizes have reverted to even smaller numbers. Rather than announcing a full slate of programming for the remainder of the season, we’ll be taking a very nimble approach, cautiously making announcements potentially one project at a time. Today, we are excited to announce our first offering of pandemic-friendly microprogramming that we can deliver safely to audiences.”

TINY PLAYS, BIG IDEAS: A FESTIVAL OF HUMAN RIGHTS

In partnership with the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, Royal MTC presents a new festival: TINY PLAYS, BIG IDEAS. This promenade-style theatre event is a series of socially distanced plays that will take you on a physical and emotional journey through CMHR. Walking in cohorts of up to 10 people, with staggered starting times, patrons will experience five 10-minute plays spaced throughout the museum.

TICKET HOLDERS FOR THE 2020/21 SEASON
Subscribers have many options for their unused tickets. These include: holding money on account as a credit; making a donation to MTC; receiving a refund, or a hybrid of all options. Royal MTC staff is reaching out to ticket holders to review options. Regardless of a subscriber’s decision, their seats will be held for them for the 2021/22 season.

BLACK & WHITE BALL AT HOME
Saturday, November 14 at 7pm
The Black & White Ball, previously rescheduled for January 30, 2021, will now take place on November 14, 2020. Patrons are invited to enjoy an evening at the theatre, all from the comfort of their own “ballroom”! Instead of our traditional dinner and dance, we're presenting a Virtual Cocktail Cabaret featuring performances by Laura Olafson, Simon Miron and Paul De Gurse.
