Education & Outreach

Discover and explore how artists, craftspeople and designers create the theatre magic you see onstage.  This engaging series of six eye-opening workshops led by theatre professionals takes you behind-the-scenes like you’ve never been before, while giving you the chance to see every Mainstage production for free. Learn about topics like set and costume design, choreography, auditioning, playwriting, and so much more! No experience is necessary – just curiosity and a willingness to learn and have fun!

Each session starts at 10 am with a workshop tailored to our current John Hirsch Mainstage production and is led by a member of Manitoba’s professional theatre community. Past topics have included the audition process, stage combat, dialects, set design, playwriting and more. After lunch, students attend the matinee performance in the John Hirsch Theatre. The day concludes after our post-show Talkback (approximately 4:45 pm).

Please note that Backstage Pass occurs during the school day and participants will require permission from both their school and parents/guardians to attend. Lunch is generously provided by Subway.
