JULY 15 to 26, 2020 – CANCELLED

It’s with great sadness that we announce the cancellation of the 2020 Winnipeg Fringe Festival due to COVID-19.

The health and safety of our artists, staff, volunteers and patrons is our top priority, and is the reason we cannot confidently move forward with the 2020 festival as planned. The health and community impacts of the virus continue to evolve rapidly and with no certainty as to when social distancing practices, physical isolation measures and restrictions on public gatherings will be lifted, artists are unable to rehearse; our performance venues are closed indefinitely; and staff cannot adequately plan for a full festival when the situation changes daily.

In this time of uncertainty, we will continue to look for ways to support our local community of artists. You will be hearing from us in the coming months as we gather our resources to provide services and programs to those who have been affected by the cancellation of the festival. In the meantime, we look forward to the 2021 Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival (July 14–25) with passion and excitement.

We have not made this decision lightly, or without acknowledging the impact it will have on our artistic community – financially, emotionally and creatively. We extend heartfelt thanks to our funders, sponsors, staff, volunteers, artists and patrons for their ongoing commitment to the Fringe; we look forward to a time when we may meet again.

Thank you for your support and understanding. Please stay safe. We hope to see you soon.

The Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival is North America’s second-largest Fringe and is presented by the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, the only regional theatre in the country to produce a Fringe Festival. Presenting live theatre in an informal, accessible and inexpensive environment, the Fringe strives to break down traditional boundaries between audience and artist, encouraging open dialogue between theatre-goers and theatre-creators. Audiences are invited to experience the work of seasoned veterans as well as emerging artists. Local, national and international performing companies benefit from working together and learning from each other in a vibrant and exciting festival atmosphere.
