The Jean Murray-Moray Sinclair Apprenticeship Program is a paid job auditing experience for emerging artists and craftspeople to gain exposure to professional theatre work. Most applicants are recent graduates of post-secondary theatre training (within the past two years), but applications will be equally considered from those with other theatre experience who are looking to expand their knowledge, or a background in artistic disciplines outside of theatre who wish learn more and pursue a theatre career.
The Assistant Program is for early career professionals looking to explore and enhance their artistic practice in a job experience. Ideally, applicants would have at least three years of professional experience.
MTC expects to continue our vaccination mandate throughout the 2023-24 season for Artists and Creative Teams. All assistants or apprentices will be asked to confirm proof of COVID-19 vaccination before their interview. Masks are currently required for all Artists and Creative Teams while on-site. To apply for either program, you must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant and a resident of Manitoba. Your application should include the completed form, a letter of reference, a resume or CV, a written statement (see the application for specifics) and portfolio/supporting material for some disciplines. Full checklists for the application and details about each program are in the downloadable file. If you have any questions or face barriers in the application process, please contact Ksenia Broda-Milian, Education and Enrichment Manager by email or phone 204 954 6413. If you are trained in stage management and looking to begin your career as a CAEA/Equity apprentice SM, please do not apply here but instead forward your cover letter, and resume to Director of Production Russell Martin. Please note that we do not offer playwriting or acting apprenticeships. If you are interested in performing on Royal MTC stages, see our auditions page. We will open submissions for playwrights' pitch sessions in the spring.
