Daan (Tagalog for “the road”) is a vibrant celebration of musical theatre, led by powerhouse performers Ma-Anne Dionisio and Stephanie Sy. This one-night-only concert blends beloved Broadway hits and exciting contemporary works from the Filipino-Canadian canon. We’ll also learn more about the journey of Rizal, our musical in development about the life of José Rizal, with book and music Winnipeg’s own Joseph Aragon. It’s a night to celebrate Filipino culture while showcasing the past, present and future of musical theatre. Join us for a joyful evening of song performed by two of musical theatre’s most exciting divas!

Stephanie Sy is a Filipino-Chinese Theatre and Film artist raised on Treaty 1 Territory, Winnipeg. Her 20-year career began on stage, predominantly in musical theatre, working all across North America. Royal MTC productions include Waitress, Romeo and Juliet, The Penelopiad, Vietgone (with fu-GEN/Hope and Hell). Additional film/TV/theatre credits include: Cyrano de Bergerac (Royal MTC/Citadel/Grande Theatre); Eureka Day (Coal Mine Theatre); Time Capsule (Aquarius Theatre); Next to Normal (Mirvish/Musical Stage Company/Dora Mavor Moore Award Nominee); Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (Rainbow); Tribes (Winnipeg Jewish Theatre); Disney’s The Little Mermaid (Globe Theatre); world premieres of Prairie Nurse (Blyth Festival); Post-Democracy (Prairie Theatre Exchange); and Prom Queen (Segal Centre); and We Will Rock You (1st National Tour). Stephanie was one of the 2021 recipients of The Harold Greenberg Fund where she wrote, directed, and produced her very first short film, Knots, that was screened in film festivals all over North America.
Philippine-born Canadian actress Ma-Anne Dionisio is best known for portraying the role of Kim in the Canadian Premiere of Miss Saigon at the Princess of Wales in Toronto. She has since graced stages all over the world, including Broadway and London’s West End in productions of Les Miserables, Jesus Christ Superstar, Flower Drum Song, Sunday in the Park With George, Martin Guerre, Miss Saigon, West Side Story, Mamma Mia!, Grease, Cats and The Secret Garden. She earned the Dora Award for her most recent portrayal of Diana in the Toronto production of Next to Normal (Mirvish/Musical Stage Co).
