Royal MTC is committed to the cultivation of local talent by providing opportunities for early career designers and directors to refine and strengthen their craft. Through our Assistant Program, successful applicants work with established theatre artists to broaden their skills and obtain professional experience.

Design and Directing Assistant Application Process

Applicants are:

  • Early career professional designers and directors looking for opportunities to explore/enhance their artistic practice through production-specific mentoring by professional artists in their field. Mid-career and established artists transitioning to directing from another role are also welcome to apply.
  • Theatre artists with at least three years of demonstrated professional experience.
  • Residents of Manitoba

Note: Theatre artists with less than three years experience are eligible for Royal MTC’s Apprenticeship Program.

Assistants will receive a fee of $1600 and are encouraged to supplement that fee with professional development grants. Four assistantships will be awarded per season.

The 2019/20 Application Deadline has now passed. The 2020/21 Design and Director Assistant Application Form will be available in mid-February, 2020.
